Kirti Mandir


With a cluster of shiva temples, it was built to commemorate the cremation of the members of the Gaekwad family. Kirti Mandir is located on the north of the statue of Prince Fatehsinghrao Gaekwad near the Vishwamitri Bridge in Vadodara, Gujarat. This `E` shaped large magnificient stone building with domes, terraces and balconies and central shikhara rises to a lofty height of 33 metres. According to Sayaji Gaekwad it was built to memorialize the benefactors of his state irrespective of their race, caste and creed. Built by Maharaja Sayajirao with a budget of Rs. 50,000 it treasures in its various rooms the statues and photographs of the members of the royal family. The interiors of this elegant structure is built in marble and the central hall has murals of `Gangavataran`, life of Meera Bai and `Natir Puja` fulfilled by the famous artist from Bengal, Nandalal Bose. The Kirti Mandir, Vadodara, Gujarat is open to public viewing between 9.00 to 12.00 in the morning and 2.30 to 5.30 in the evening.
